![]() There had been an adapter fitting to hover the single discharge line over the drain, but I set mine up to accommodate two lines. The little discharge pumps in the softener and filter have no problem pushing the waste water over that 30' distance through 1/2" pipe. I made the extra line for the filter discharge and essentially ran it parallel to the existing one to maintain a clear and uncontaminated path for each discharge line.īoth exit about an inch above the washer drain as seen in the photos below. You need to have (.at least by my understanding of plumbing code and common sense) an air gap between the end of the discharge line and the drain point to prevent any backflow of sewage into the system. Having only one discharge line in place, I ran a second along the wall and to the laundry room where they meet. This was fine until I installed the water softener and a separate filter, both of which have their own little pumps to discharge waste water. My house came pre-plumbed with a water softener loop and a drain discharge line they had run from there to the washing machine drain (from the other side of the garage, through the walls, and to the drain box in the laundry room adjacent to the garage). So, is what we're talking about it cutting the vent pipe in the attic above the laundry sink, forming a p-trap, and then put a fitting for the drain line in the resulting riser? The bid for just running the drain was $565 including a copper T for hose bib. I had never thought of this before and, assuming it's OK since 2 plumbers said it was good one even saying he wanted to use PEX because the fittings are code - I thought i'd look into doing it myself. Each suggested to just tie the drain line into the laundry sink vent pipe in the attic. I had 2 plumbers out (for bids on tankless systems) and I asked to add running this line into the bids. The total run and rise isn't the issue, it's the tie-in for the drain. The softener is in the front of the garage and the drain needs to go up about 4' (8' ceilings), across the garage, then the length of the garage into the laundry area. My goal is to get my softener installed today. ![]()
